Spit Syndicate’s second album Exile (2010) cemented their progression from humble beginnings and established the pair as one of the brightest and sharpest acts emerging from the local scene. With lead single ‘Starry-Eyed’ enjoying high rotation on triple j for many months, Spit Syndicate embarked on four national tours that year. High-end artist management company Phat Planet signed the duo to their roster in 2011.
The third member of Spit Syndicate is their touring DJ
and accomplished musician/vocalist, Joyride, who brings his dynamic vocal talent and charismatic stage presence to the Sydney outfit. The trio have carved a reputation for their explosive live show, which features banging beats, live instrumentation and lots of energy and crowd interaction. Spit Syndicate have shared stages around Australia with 360, Horrorshow, Illy, Drapht, Bliss N Eso; supported heavyweights like Lupe Fiasco, Cypress Hill and Ice Cube; and played at festivals such as Pyramid Rock, Peat’s Ridge and Good Vibrations.
In 2011 Spit Syndicate released Best Intentions: Part One, the first of an online mixtape series showcasing the duo’s sharpest lyricism yet. The free release attracted over 10,000 downloads, presenting an eager fan base with a prelude to the highly anticipated third album.
Sunday Gentlemen marks the next chapter in the Spit Syndicate story; an honest, reflective yet forward-thinking album, marked by slick, contemporary production and sharp, heartfelt song-writing.
Featuring production highlights from the best in the business, Adit (Horrorshow), Styalz Fuego (360, Seth Sentry), M-Phazes (Drapht, Bliss n Eso), and J-Skub (Illy, Owl Eyes) and an impressive list of guest vocalists to be announced in the coming months Sunday Gentlemen is; “Our strongest work to date; we feel like we’ve refinedand honed our style and skills as songwriters and as MCs. Sunday Gentlemen is the result of two years hard work and is an accurate reflection of our headspace over that time†Spit Syndicate.
Lead single ‘Beauty in the Bricks’ is indicative of the album’s prowess. Jimmy and Nick drape their smooth vocals and trademark flows over Adit’s layered, head-nodding production to create an uplifting, catchy song for the summer: “Beauty in the Bricks is a song about rejecting the monotony of routine in favour of something brand new, something fresh and exciting.†Nick Lupi
