Breaking onto the scene in 2011 with single ‘Teachers’, Buchanan are back with new single ‘Run Faster’.

Buchanan is the coming together of the unabashed melodies of Josh Simons (vocals, keys), the sweeping instrumentation of Luke Shields (guitar), the driving bass of Miles de Carteret and intricate rhythms of Dan Barwick.

The Melbournians burst into the public focus in 2011 with a rare 5-star review from triple j music director Richard Kingsmill, high rotation airplay of single ‘Teachers’ and an opening slot at the famed Laneway Festival—all within 6 months. Buchanan’s dynamic debut EP, NO PHOTO, soon followed, released via Inertia Records. Weaving classic pop melodies with progressive rock arrangements, Beat Magazine earmarked Buchanan as “one of the fastest rising bands in Australia.”

Conceived during a bleary-eyed songwriting marathon in the sandy seclusion of Safety Beach, Victoria, Buchanan began with Simons in December 2009 and the band grew from there.

With a newly recruited live band, the group was soon after invited to headline an industry showcase, playing their first live show to an intimate audience. Buchanan then played a string of supports with the likes of Kimbra, Gypsy & The Cat and Tim & Jean, before opening the 2011 Laneway Festival.

Simons, born in the UK, hails from a family of musical royalty. His grandfather, co-founder of Leeds Music, went on to run Universal Music, and managed Tom Jones until death.

The band are currently busy recording their first studio album, and have quietly released to the internet new single ‘Run Faster’ as a hype track and reminder of the powerful sound that this quartet have to offer.

Details of a national tour and release schedule will be released in the coming months.
