18-year-old London vocalist, rapper and songwriter Col3trane shares his new single ‘Penelope’. Shot and directed by Prince’s long-term photographer Nicole Nodland and premiered by The FADER, the video is available to watch now via Vevo.
Col3trane is the moniker of Cole Basta, a songwriter and musician from North London. Born to American and Egyptian parents, the foundation of Cole’s music is a kaleidoscope of cross- cultural influences. Involved in Birmingham R&B and hip-hop collectives since his early teens, Cole writes and records with his best friend and long-term producer/collaborator Lauren Ralph who produced his debut single ‘New Chain’. In conversation with FADER, Cole explains that Penelope is inspired by characters from Homer’s Odyssey, a story Cole was reading while he and producer Jay Mooncie were working on the track.
Prior to ‘Penelope’, Col3trane appeared as the vocalist on SG Lewis’ ‘Smart Aleck Kill’. ‘Penelope’ and ‘New Chain’ are taken from Col3trane’s forthcoming mixtape, being self-released later this year.
