“The glass that held us together, shattered in the wind”

The opening line of Foreign Architects latest single, Glass, echoes that relationship we’ve all had. Things seemingly plod along as they always have, until that one day that they simply don’t. As front man, Matt Burke explains, “Nothing is forever, people come and go, the song looks back on the times that you were completely on the same page as someone and how that can change”. While Glass muses over metaphoric relationships coming to an end, it concurrently reveals a new relationship within the band’s literal line-up.

The former Perth indie pop duo welcomes Callum Morrisson (bass guitar) and Dylan Geiles (guitar) to the band with the release of their first collaborative studio effort. Expanding to a band was the next logical step. Callum & Dylan have been playing live with FA since late 2016, and the first studio offering from the 4-piece feels like a more mature single for that reason. The bright and lush pop song about the inevitable reality of most relationships gives the new members room to showcase, whilst retaining FA’s fuzzy melodies from previous releases, without getting in each other’s way. Glass is the most complete FA work to date, building upon their catalogue of pop songs that you can take home to your mum but you wouldn’t want dating your daughter.

Produced by Dylan Olivierre (The Money War), mixed by Andy Lawson and mastered by Brian Lucey, the same dream team that worked on FA’s successful January release, Poisonous Pill, which achieved widespread radio play across the nation. Glass is available for download from Monday 8 May.
Foreign Architects support Polish Club at Amplifier Bar on May 20 for the Alright Already Tour, alongside The Money War.
