Australian born, Kiwi singer-songwriter Thomas Oliver releases his new single “Roses†today. The song is an intimate story of his blossoming connection with an online acquaintance that eventually leads him to become a catfish victim.
“Her name was Daniella and she was so intriguing and full of stories. The more I spoke with her the more I became inspired by her stories. Her story of roses and their significance throughout her remarkable life was a song begging to be written. I couldn't help but write it, and I feel it captures the essence of her story and my intrigue and attraction to her.†says Thomas.
“So Roses was written before I had any idea that I was talking to someone whose identity I would never know. It represents the wonder of being excited by another human on this planet. It also now represents a valuable lesson for me. But thank you, Daniella, or whoever you are, because I think Roses may even be my favourite song I've ever written.â€
Thomas wrote and recorded “Roses†during the first few weeks of lockdown and created a lyric video to highlight his story.
Thomas Oliver represents the openness of the mind and the heart, both as a musician and as a human. He touches people's lives in all corners of the globe as he draws a connection between various forms of music that could otherwise be considered polar opposites, and he invites people into an artistic perspective which is entirely unique. His warm demeanor and story-telling on stage are as much a part of his musical identity as his unmistakable falsetto-singing range or his world-renowned touch on the lap-slide guitar, or his celebrated vocal contributions to the genre of Drum & Bass music (for which he was a Top10 finalist in the category Best Vocalist at the 2019 Drum & Bass Arena Awards).
The New Zealander has quietly been winning the hearts of Australian audiences for a number of years and most recently on his “Floating In The Darkness†tour in 2017. His soulful and emotive vocals have earnt him comparisons to John Mayer, Daniel Caesar and Gary Clarke Jr.
