We all become poets when we experience our first crush. However for Ezra James he went one step further and wrote a song for what he thought at 12 years old, was his dream girl. He didn’t get the girl but he developed an intense love affair . . . with music.
He discovered he had a soulful singing sound that would attract a crowed whenever he sang on the streets. He then wanted to upgrade his sound and accompanied his singing with guitar playing. The guitar magnified his performance and other than making him look cooler, Ezra had a real talent with strings. Not long after he had also come to master Bass, Drums and Piano.
As Ezra James progressed vocally and instrumentally he naturally gravitated towards music composition and production. With his perfect ear for pitch, tone and timing, accompanied with his devotion for old school R&B he created music contrary to dance, pop and indie which dominated his environment. His music has been described as progressive R&B as it incorporates contemporary musicality but still remains true to urban roots. Ezra’s music is written from the soul but stimulates the body. Each beat and melody is placed purposely as to elicit dancing even if you don’t feel like it.
At twenty three Ezra has accumulated an international following predominately among Australia and New Zealand and is a renowned artist within the Brisbane music scene. He has had the opportunity to collaborate and circulate with artists such as Kid Ink, Ray J, Stan Walker, 112 and Lloyd.
Ezra James is NOT your quintessential lap top carrying, headphone wearing musician. When he’s not spending days in his DIY home studio, he’s at the gym, running on the road, or in dimly lit car parks training for an MMA fight. His personal philosophy derives from the aphorism ‘Healthy body, Healthy mind’. Ezra personifies his relationship with music and believes in reciprocal effort. He remains in optimal shape mentally, physically and spiritually and the music comes to him freely.
Ezra James is the Urban Artist Australia has been waiting for to represent our appreciation for R&B to the world.
